What is Boudoir Photography?: When I tell people that I’m a boudoir photographer, I often get asked: “What is boudoir photography?” The short answer goes something like this… “I shoot women in sexy lingerie,” which usually gets their attention and peaks curiosity. Boudoir photography isn’t new to the photography industry. You may recall “Glamour Shots” in the 80’s and 90’s, if you’re old enough to remember. It was very popular and widely accepted. They had studios in shopping centres around the country where women would receive a makeover and had their portrait taken.

Today’s concept of boudoir has expanded beyond the 80’s glamour “makeover” and pretty pictures. Women have become more sophisticated and so too has boudoir photography. Today’s boudoir photography empowers women to face their fears and insecurities while challenging the negative programing they’ve been conditioned to believe and accept about themselves.

When individual uniqueness is embraced, we discover that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and no one is perfect. Whether you’re a size 6 or 22, there is beauty in all of us. When you experience a boudoir photo shoot you’ll discover that others don’t see you the way you see yourself. We are often too hard on ourselves. As a boudoir photographer, it is my job to find the women’s most beautiful attributes and accentuate them.

What I really love about boudoir photography is the feeling I get watching my clients light up with confidence and say, “I can’t believe that’s “me” when I show them the back of my camera! What happens during a boudoir photo shoot is truly magical. We hold space that is void of criticism and judgment and allow enough time to let go of fear and inhibitions. What I love most is the fun we have together by not taking ourselves too seriously.

What are your hours?: Our boudoir sessions are held Monday to Fridays with special request Saturdays.
Where are you located?: Our studio is located in the outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne in Lilydale. Our boudoir sessions can be held in our studio, various local BnB's in the Dandenong Ranges or Yarra Valley, or you may choose to have your boudoir session shot at home if you have a bedroom or home with beautiful natural light.
How do I book?: Sessions are booked by calling our studio on 0419 593 380 or 0491 179 788. We will select a date to suit and you will be forwarded all the necessary information by email after we've chatted. The session fee is due at the time of booking to secure your session. We have printed and digital options available.
What payment options do you accept?: We accept EftPOS, VISA and Mastercard, direct deposit or cash if you prefer. We have some amazing pre-payment session options for clients as well.
Do You Offer Payment Plans?: Yes! Pre-payments plans are available when requested prior to the session, otherwise payments are due on the day of your session. If a post-payment plan is organised we will hold onto your order for processing until your order is paid in full. Pre-payment plans include some amazing included bonuses!
How far in advance do I need to book?: We recommend booking your session at least 6 weeks in advanced from when you'll be needing your printed products by. If you choose a digital package option we suggest booking two weeks prior to needing images to be delivered.
How and when do I get to select my favorite images?: At your ordering session after your photo shoot on the same day. We assist clients to decide which images would look best in an album or hang as wall art. We help guide you in the photo selection process by doing side by side comparisons to get the best selections. We love having our clients see their images in person and seeing their reactions!
How long after my session will I receive my products?: After your photo reveal and ordering appointment, it will take another 3-4 weeks for lab processing and shipping before you receive your printed product. Christmas supplier cut off dates are usually mid November. Digital options are ready around 2 weeks post order session.
Can I bring a friend with me to my photo shoot?: Absolutely. If you're feeling nervous and would benefit the support of a bff, then by all means bring them. They will be asked to remain in the make-up room while we are shooting, we ask that they do not interfere with the shoot and refrain from jumping in to "fix" something, or direct you in anyway while on set and being photographed.
Do you provide hair and makeup services?: Yes, we work with an amazing team of stylists, and having your hair and makeup done by a professional will greatly enhance the experience and quality of your photos…you’ll love being pampered too! This is your time to sit and relax as you prepare for your shoot. We are very selective, so rest assure you will love your hair and makeup.
What should I bring to my shoot? Do you supply wardrobe?: While we don’t supply the complete wardrobe, we do have some lingerie, body chains and other wardrobe pieces and accessories that you are welcome to use. We especially love our tulle boudoir gowns. Each piece is hand washed or dry cleaned after each use. Once your session is booked, we will send you a welcome guide with a list of places to shop for lingerie and what to bring with you to your shoot. Plan to bring 2-4 outfits with you. I have a little problem area on my body, is there anything you can do?: Regardless of age or body type, Empowered Boudoir offers all women an incredible experience and opportunity to commission their own collection of stunning, modern boudoir portraits. With our years of experience and expertise, we will guide and demonstrate each pose, and photograph you in ways that exemplify and flatter your best features.

Most women are self-conscious about at least one area of their body, whether it be stretch marks from having kids, cellulite on their butt, or scars from when you were younger. There are many ways we can handle these little imperfections with wardrobe choice, posing, lighting, and retouching. Rest assured you are in the best of hands!
My skin is pale, should I go tanning or get a spray tan before my session?: We do not recommend either, honestly. While a tan might make you feel more confident, not all tanning products work well. Furthermore, tan lines are difficult to blend in or fade. Sunbathing also produces uneven skin tones. If you must tan we recommend you use a professional you have in the past that produces good toned tans.
Will my images be shown on your website or in your studio?: The images shown on my website, social media, and in-studio displays are shown with the client’s written permission. We fully respect and understand the privacy of our clients, and your images will not be used in anyway to market or promote Empowered Boudoir without your written consent.
